Professor of
Geology, M. L. Sukhadia University, Udaipur, has made significant
contributions in the field of geology by his study of Precambrian
metamorphic of Singhbhum in Bihar, the rocks of Aravalli belt of
Rajasthan' and the lithostratigraphy of Garhwal and Kumaun Himalayas in
U. P. His sustained research led to better understanding of the
evolution of the Precambrian crust of the Atavalli region and the
related tectono-sedimentary depositional model for Aravalli and Delhi
basins. His discovery of 3.3 billion year old gneisses near Udaipur,
Rajasthan is one important milestone in the understanding of the geology
of Rajasthan.
In recognition of his
outstanding work in the field of fundamental geology, Dr. Ashit Baran
Roy is conferred the National Mineral Award for 1991-92. He shares the
award with six other awardees for contribution in their respective
fields.
