Geologist (Sr.), Geological Survey
of India has made valuable contributions in fundamental geology by
sustained and systematic Geological research on the Delhi Supergroup in
the Aravalli belt of Rajasthan, by utilizing the concept of dynamic
stratigraphy leading to the unified geological evolutionary history
encompassing sedimentation, tectonism and volcanic episodes. Similar
studies were also carried out by him in the Singhbhum-Chotanagpur region
of Bihar by utilizing the concept of dynamic stratigraphy.
In recognition of his
significant contribution leading, to establishing a unified model for
the geological evolution of the Delhi Supergroup in the .complex
Precambrian Aravalli Mountain belt in Rajasthan and also in the
Precambrian in Singhbhum area of Bihar, adopting a dynamic stratigraphic
concept, Dr. S. P. Singh is conferred the National Mineral Award for
1991- 92. He shares the award with six other awardees for contribution
in their respective fields.
