OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS 1997
Commission
on Geological Sciences for Environmental Planning - COGEOF-ENVIRONMENT, a
body affiliated to International Union of Geological Sciences, at its
1996 annual meeting recognized that many contribution to environmental
geology, and to the goals of the Commission by certain Corresponding
Members, has been exceptional. Although their contributions have long
being recognized as being of paramount significance, there was no
mechanism to honor those individuals. The Commission identified a unique
award and designed a special plaque with the inscription:
"Outstanding
Achievement Award for exceptional efforts accomplished in the field of
environmental geology".
The
Commission was pleased, to announce that the first two Corresponding
Members recognized by this award were Dr.
Vinod Agrawal (India) and Dr.
David Elliot (Canada). The Commission Officers and Corresponding Members
extended their congratulations and well wishes to both individuals. It
was hoped that they enjoy continued success in their work on
environmental geology issues for many more years to come! The following
is the text of the citation.
Dr.
Vinod Agrawal is recognized for his untiring efforts in national
environmental geology affairs in India, where he has very effectively
promoted the discipline through conferences, workshops, and student
competitions. His regular contributions to the Newsletter are well known
to all members.
